What is the function of the witnesses for a wedding?

BEFORE THE WEDDING

 

  • Advisers of the couple

 

To be a witness leads you to the function of advisers of the bride and groom. You will be brought to help them to make the good choice when they’ll take a decision. For example, for the wedding dress…

 

  • Bachelorette and bachelor party

 

Most of the time, to be a witness give to you the organization of the bachelorette or bachelor party. Surprise them!

 

  • Wedding rings

 

The bride and the groom will certainly confide to you the wedding rings. Be careful, you must not lose them.

 

  • Do It Yourself

 

If it’s necessary, you will have to realize crafts: to fold invitations, to bind Mass booklet, to prepare the guests’ gift…

 

THE D-DAY

 

  • Help the couple

 

The D-Day, make sure that the bride and groom eat lunch because, overwhelmed by stress, they often forget. Help with make-up touch ups and apparel.

 

  • Tissues

 

As with every wedding, a large quantity of tears of joy is poured out, most of them by the bride and groom. So, think of taking tissues, which will be of great use.

 

  • Signature

 

It’s at this stage that your role takes all its meaning: the signature of the registers, at the town hall and/or at the church. You will testify of the love between the bride and groom.

If you want, you can write a speech that you will make at the reception to tell few stories with humour and emotion.

AFTER THE WEDDING

 

  • To be still here for the bride and groom

 

If they chose you as a witness, it’s because the bride and groom are attached to you, with a family or friendly lien. That’s why you have to still be there for them, even if it was already the case. You can also, in case of difficulties encountered by the couple, remind them of the love that united them.

 

 

 

More generally, being a witness is an important role that you must take to heart. The bride and groom will count on you to support and accompany them in the union of their love.
