The secular wedding ceremony: what does it consist of? What are its advantages?
The exchange of lay vows is not synonymous with simplicity. Contrary to popular belief, the secular ceremony is strong in emotions. It gives a touch of romance to this beautiful day: your rights or your duties as a couple are not evoked, we speak about your feelings, your love, your history, and your commitments to each other .
The advantages are many both content and form:
- choice of the person who will celebrate the ceremony: a professional officiant or someone close to you? The choice depends on the size you want to give to your marriage (the choice of the officiant gives a tone to your marriage: relational proximity or more solemn speech?)
- content of the speech: to tell your story or to read a text that you appreciate, you can dance or sing! This is your time, so it's up to you to choose what you want to do with it and how to celebrate your love.
- place of ceremony: inside or outside, an atypical place, in the open air for example (think of the lighting when you choose the place) ... you can really do what you want !

- Avoid talking about the ceremony, keeping the secret for more surprises on D-Day;
- Do not put too much pressure on your spouse, it may be harder for him to write his vows or express his love than for you;
- For preparation, take the time to ask yourself, share your memories, the course of your story and only after, begin to try to find a good compromise on how to express your love (rituals, texts, speech? Singing? Music?);
- The preparation of the lay ceremony is not so easy. Begin to prepare it one year before, especially if you opt for a professional officiant, you have to book the date and see your relationship this him.
